Champaign is a lovely and pleasant mid-sized, middle to upper middle class American city in Champaign County, in the state of Illinois, in the United States of America. The city is located just 135 miles south of the city of Chicago, just 124 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 178 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. The United States Census Bureau researched the city and they estimated that the city was home to 84,513 people as of July 1, 2014. Champaign is the tenth-most populous city in Illinois and the fourth-most populous city in the state when one is just looking at cities that are outside of the Chicago metropolitan area. With a population this size, addiction can be rampant.
Champaign has a lot of good things going for it with average, middle class incomes, decent priced houses, a good education system, and average crime and employment. For its education, Champaign is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign with its sister city of Urbana. Champaign is also known for being the home of Parkland College which serves about 18,000 students all in all during the prestigious academic year.
Due to the well-known university and a number of impressive and rapidly expanding technology startup companies, Champaign is often referred to as the hub, or a significant landmark at the very least, of the infamous Silicon Prairie. Champaign houses offices for Abbott, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Caterpillar, Deere & Company, Dow Chemical Company, IBM, State Farm, and Intel all of which are Fortune 500 companies, and for Sony. This has made for a strong infrastructure and a good, firm foundation in the American economy for Champaign.
The city also makes a good point of featuring a large technology and software industry that is mostly focused on research and development of new technologies and plans. The popular Research Park, located in southern Champaign and backed by the University of Illinois, is home to many companies, including Riverbed Technology, Citrix Systems, Abbott Laboratories, Dow Innovation Center, Intelligent Medical Objects, Yahoo! and the State Farm Research Center. Numerous other software and technology companies now also have offices in Champaign including AMD, Intel, IBM, Amdocs, Infobright, Instarecon, Phonak, Power World, Caterpillar Simulation Center, and Volition, Inc.. In fact, the largest high technology employer is Wolfram Research, with more than 400 employees in the city of Champaign alone.
Sadly, even with all of the beneficial and positive aspects to Champaign that this city has going for it, none of that has allowed them to be able to escape the grim veil that has been put on them by drug and alcohol abuse, addiction, dependence, drug trafficking, drug dealing, drug pushing, drug-related crimes, thefts, accidents, violence, and emergencies.
The fact of the matter is that, unfortunately, American drug groups, criminals, traffickers, and dealers tend to go to the cities that are doing all right in hopes that they will have a better chance at good business there. That is exactly what has been happening in Champaign and in other cities too, all across the nation. For the statistics, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, (SAMHSA), and its affiliates had this to say on the matter:
When a city comes under the influence of intensive drug and alcohol abuse and addiction problems, they always look to the rehab centers for help. This is a good thing for them to do as well as it is apparent that inpatient rehab programs are without a doubt the single most effective way of beating an addiction problem once and for all.
With inpatient rehab, anyone who is struggling with addiction can get fully detoxed and rehabilitated on both physical and mental levels to completion, no matter who they are or what they are struggling with. It will take some time and some work but it can and it will be done. Inpatient rehabs use a combination of a detoxification facility and a residential rehab facility to effectively address both the chemical and the psychological aspects of addiction both, and these methods are highly successful to say the least.
No one should have to suffer needlessly with an addiction problem. There are rehab centers in Champaign, outside of Champaign and, if one wants to travel (which is often the best idea), in neighboring states that can help Champaign residents beat their drug problem once and for all.
The only way for a city to truly vanquish its drug problem is to work with inpatient rehab centers. These programs truly have what it takes to help out. Preventative measures and plans are fine and good but they pale in comparison to the kind of good that a stellar rehab center can do. Besides, no matter how much prevention is applied in Champaign it will not be totally effective if there are still individuals who live there who are allowed to continue to abuse drugs and alcohol. With rehab though, the actual addicts themselves will get cured and the city can finally get back to itself again.
