Drug Rehab Evansville

Evansville is a popular and well established city in and the county seat of Vanderburgh County, in the state of Indiana, in the United States of America. The population was 117,429 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. As the state’s third-largest city and the largest city in all of Southern Indiana, it is the commercial, medical, and cultural hub of Southwestern Indiana and the Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky tri-state area too.

Situated on a pleasant oxbow in the Ohio River, the city is often referred to as the “Crescent Valley” or “River City”, and it has other names too. As testament to the Ohio’s grandeur, early French explorers named it La Belle Riviere, (“The Beautiful River”). The area has been inhabited by various cultures for millennia, dating back at least 10,000 years. The area has so much history that it is visited and studied by thousands for that exact reason. For example, Angel Mounds was a permanent settlement of the Mississippian culture from 1000 AD to around 1400 AD. The city itself was founded far, far, far later in 1812.

Evansville has a strong economy to add to its rich history and culture. The broad economic base of the region has helped to build an economy which is known for its stability, diversity, and vitality too. Four NYSE companies, (ACW, BERY, LEAF, VVC), are headquartered in Evansville, along with the global operations center for NYSE company Mead Johnson. Three other big companies that traded on the NASDAQ (ESCA, ONB, SCVL) are located in Evansville too. The city is home to public and private enterprise in many areas, as Evansville serves as the economic hub of the region and provides jobs for thousands. Tens of thousands more visit Evansville regularly too.

The city has several well-known educational institutions of which it is very well known. The University of Evansville is a small private school located on the city’s east side, while the University of Southern Indiana is a larger public institution located just outside the city’s west side limits. So, the city is a historic hub, an economic hub, and a college hub too. Other local educational institutions have also garnered praise and attention too, including nationally ranked Signature School and the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library which is famous. In 2008, Evansville was voted the best city in the entire country in which “to live, work, and play” by the readers of Kiplinger, and in 2009 it was voted the 11th best.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Addiction Make an Impact in Evansville

Sadly, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction have made a big impact on Evansville. This is a city and a general area that has been suffering a lot with a lot of different drug and alcohol abuse and addiction problems that have been making big problems for some time now. This is a city and a general area that had survived a lot of hardship, but this one may yet be the worst one.

Drug and alcohol addiction or abuse is a problem all across the nation. Lots of other cities replicate similar drug problems that Evansville has. For example, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, (NSDUH), had this to say on the matter in terms of sheer statistics:

  • Nothing is off limits with 14.3 percent of Americans having purchased drugs online. The 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 23.9 million American citizens over age 11 had used illicit drugs in the month preceding the survey. Every year, drug and alcohol abuse in the United States comes with a $600 billion price tag too.
  • Emergency room visits for non-medical usage of prescription drugs went up from 627,291 visits in 2004 to 1,244,679 in 2009, a 98.4 percent escalation. Patterns such as this suggest that drug abuse in America is steadily and significantly on the rise. In fact, according to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, “In 2010, two million people reported using prescription opioids non-medically for the first time — nearly 5,500 people a day.”
  • A 2008 study reported that drug-related overdoses had risen 56 percent in the previous 10 years. While drug use was quite high in the late 1970s with 25.4 million people abusing them, relief came at a much lower rate of 12 million in the early 1990s; today, those numbers have risen once again, holding steady at 20.4 million in 2006.
  • Drug addiction has reached epidemic levels across the globe. There are 230 million drug users worldwide. In America, the problem is no better, with 19.9 million people using illicit drugs in 2007. Despite the fact that American people make up only four percent of the global population, they still manage to use two-thirds of illegal drugs worldwide.
  • Since its discovery thousands of years ago, marijuana use has steadily risen to the levels it is at now, with 15 million people using it. With over 94 million Americans having experimented at least once with marijuana, teens and those in their early 20s comprise the majority of the marijuana-abusing population, with 6.7 percent of youths ages 12 to 17 being users as of 2007.
  • Synthetic marijuana is now a major role player too, being second in line to naturally grown cannabis among high school seniors. Other synthetic drugs, such as bath salts, have grown quickly in popularity since first entering the European drug market in 2008 and making their way to the US a year or so later. In 2010, synthetic marijuana was the reason for 11,406 emergency room visits.

Rehab Sought as the Solution in Evansville

Thankfully, there is yet still some hope for those addicts to drugs and alcohol and abusing them in Evansville. For these individuals, the key is to go to an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehab program, and recovery organization. With proper rehab, it actually becomes possible for anyone who is addicted to anything to safely and effectively beat any type of addiction problem once and for all. This is truly the type of help that is needed in Evansville and it is needed now.

Detoxification is an invaluable way and method of helping someone who is hooked on drugs go free from the chemical addiction problem that goes along with drug and alcohol abuse. This is needed because one cannot wean down off of drugs and alcohol alone.

Next up is rehab. This is where the mental and psychological aspects of addiction are brought up and addressed. When this is done, all of the underlying issues and problems that go along with addiction are found, worked out, and eradicated. If these two steps are applied on an addict in Evansville, then it is quite certain that this problem will not continue to be such a severe one.
